Wayne Rooney remembers how to score – bags superb hat-trick v Brugge

Rooney-hat-trick-Brugge

After 878 minutes without a goal and criticism at times bordering on the hysterical, Wayne Rooney can finally breath a sigh of relief after bagging a composed hat-trick in Manchester United’s 2nd leg Champions League qualifier in Belgium.

Rooney got off the mark when Memphis Depay slipped in his captain with a delicious ball on 20 minutes. A drop of the shoulder, and suddenly Rooney’s proficiency in front of goal came flooding back.

After the restart Rooney doubled his and United’s tally with another well taken goal after this time being teed up by the returning Ander Herrera.

The inevitable Rooney hat-trick arrived on the hour mark when Juan Mata cut inside from the wing before cutting a pass back for Rooney to tuck home.

Herrera would go on to make it Club Brugge 0-4 Manchester United on the night and 7-1 on aggregate. United now advance to the Champions League group stage draw.
