After the first 32 games of the World Cup the WSJ have drawn up a table ranking each of the teams in terms of diving. Not including actual injuries where a player was forced to miss time at the World Cup, the teams are ranked firstly on the number of times an ‘injury’ occurred and also by the resulting ‘writhing time” i.e. how much time was spent rolling around in apparent agony before making a miraculous recovery.
Brazil top the charts with 17 ‘injuries’, while ironically, Honduras – notable for their physicality towards the opposition – spent the most time rolling around, feigning injury. England came in at a ‘respectable’ 26 position, while Bosnia & Herzegovina had the least number of injuries and only spent 24 seconds on the deck.
