“Today you will become a hero” – Mascherano’s words to Romero before the penalty shoot-out

0

Words of encouragement from the seemingly psychic Javier Mascherano to Sergio Romero, as he tell his keeper “Today you will become a hero”.

Romero didn’t disappoint, making two solid saves to see Argentina progress to the final, where they will face Germany on Sunday.

Both of Sergio Romero’s superb saves vs Netherlands

Big Ron Vlaar (yes, Ron Vlaar, the one who plays for Villa!) steps up, but Sergio Romero makes a comfortable save, to immediately put the Dutch under pressure.

It looked like a solid penalty by Wesley Sneijder, but somehow Romero miraculously manages to tip it round the post, setting up the winner for Maxi.

Javier Mascherano collapses after a nasty clash of heads

During Argentina’s semi-final victory over Netherlands, Javier Mascherano clashed heads badly with Georginio Wijnaldum while challenging for a header.

Despite collapsing and seemingly looking like he had suffered a possible concussion, once again a player with a serious head injury played on. Mascherano went on to make a match saving block, but at what expense?

Javier Mascherano’s match saving block on Arjen Robben

He may have suffered what looked suspiciously like a concussion earlier in the game, but Javier Mascherano made a match saving block right at the death vs the Netherlands during their semi-final.

Robben had latched onto a clever through-ball and looked odds-on to win it, with what would probably have been the final chance in the 90 minutes.

Mascherano’s blocked ensured extra time, and then penalties which Argentina went on to win 4-2.

New trailer for Messi: The Movie

In case you are unaware, a movie about Messi is coming out and this is the new trailer with English sub titles.

The movie will be part documentary part docudrama. What can’t be deciphered from the trailer is how much of the movie will be taken by the rather cheesy looking docudrama, which seems to centre around a young Messi dealing with his small stature.

On the documentary side, there are plenty of interviews with Messi’s mentors and colleagues, including Johan Cruyff, Andres Iniesta and Javier Mascherano.

Hopefully, the movie’s focus will leans more towards documentary, in which case it might be pretty decent.
