Making an extremely rare appearance, injury prone Thomas Vermaelen pop up with what turned out to be a surprise winner for Barcelona during their La Liga clash with Malaga.
The former Arsenal defender, who has spent nearly his entire Barcelona career either injured or on the bench, was on hand to lash home the winner in the 73rd minute after Malaga had failed to clear.
Barcelona’s rivals Real Madrid meanwhile got their first win of the season after they thrashed Betis 5-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu. James Rodriguez was the star of the show, blasting home an incredible free kick, before scoring a stunning overhead kick.
