Bravo, Matias Alonso, Bravo.
Just when you think footballers couldn’t find any more sneaky ways to eat up some time, along one comes with a shameful tactic to make you once again question your love for the game.
Setting the bar to a new, all time low this time is Matias Alonso for Uruguayan side Juventud during their cup game against Real Potosi. Having already won their first leg 4-1, Juventud thought the second leg would be a doddle. However, Real Potosi scored two goals and only needed one more to go through on away goals.
With time fast running out for the Real Potosi, Alonso took matters into his own hands after sustaining a spot of ‘cramp’ and called for the stretcher. Once helped onto the stretcher, Like a lemming, Alonso proceeded to leap from it wasting some more valuable time.
If there had been any justice, Real Potosi would have gone on to clinch their third depite Alonso’s antics. Unfortunately the football gods were too busy making sure Pedro scored on his Chelsea debut, and Juventud progressed to the next round.
