Very, mediocre indeed.
In fairness, Liverpool’s last game in the Champions League which came at Anfield in the 2009/10 season was a case of having to fulfil their fixtures as Lyon, and eventual group winners Fiorentina, had already booked their places in the knock out stages.
So, the team to face Fiorentina in their final game was likely more about giving game time to some of the squad players. Either way, it’s quite a contrast from the eleven we are likely to see against Ludogorets on Tuesday evening.
Liverpool had taken the lead during their last game Champions League outing against Fiorentina, after Yossi Benayoun opended the scoring, but eventually succumbed to a 2-1 defeat after goals by Martin Jørgensen and a stoppage time winner from Alberto Gilardino.
