I’ve always wondered what managers get up to on the first match day of their former club after being given the boot. I assumed most would sit bitterly in an arm chair in front of the TV watching their former chargers while blurting out remarks like “4-2-3-1?? At least I had the balls to go with two strikers!” to a nonplussed other half who preferred it when he was at the football.
Teddy Sherringham, though had a very different way of handling being sacked by Stevenage. Instead of cozying up in front of the TV, Sherringham decided to go to Stevenage’s next game in disguise!
āI got the sack on the Monday and Stevenage were playing at home and I wanted to see how they reacted to my sacking, so I went to the game on the Saturday incognito,ā whispered Teddy into a cupped hand.
One can only imagine what the disguise consisted of as Sherringham – perhaps wanting to use it again for Stevenage’s next fixture – refused to diclose that information to The Times.
My only hope is it was less in this vain…..
And more like this….
