It’s not very often that FIFA embraces transparency. So, on the odd occasion that it does, we should take full advantage. Granted, transparency on their financial dealings and Presidential votes is where we should be, but for now combing through the full list of the Ballon d’Or voting will have to do. Baby steps right?
As usual, bias is the common theme that runs through the list. For example, neither Ronaldo or Messi thought one another were good enough to be in the top three players of the World, and Vincent Kompany’s insistence on Eden Hazard being the best player in the World of course has nothing to do with them both being Belgian.
Cast those unsurprising votes aside, and their are some real gems in their. Take Myanmar coach Zeise Gerd who found no room for either Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo in his top three and went for Kevin De Bruyne as his number one. Or how about Mauritania captain N’Diaye Oumar, who believes Javier Mascherano is the best player in the world currently!
Sheer madness. Have a gander at the full list here.
