Today FIFA have announced the 10 nominees for the Puskas Award, a gong for the “most beautiful” goal of the year to be handed out during the Ballon d’Or ceremony in January.
Treasure the moment, because this is likely the only time of the year when FIFA will conduct a democratic vote from the people to suss out who should be rewarded for their labours. Instead of the usual FIFA practice of handing over prizes to whoever can stuff the most cash in Sepp Blatter’s deep pockets.
Drum roll…
1. David Ball – Fleetwood Town
2. Gonzalo Castro – Depotivo La Coruna
3. Alessandro Florenzi – Roma
4. Wendell Lira – Goianesia
5. Carli Lloyd – USA
6. Lionel Messi – Barcelona
7. Philippe Mexes – AC Milan
8. Marcel Ndjeng – Paderbon
9. Esteban Ramirez – Herediano
10. Carlos Tevez – Juventus
Eat My Goal puts it’s weighty endorsement behind Carli Lloyd’s incredible effort. Lobbing home from the halfway line, for her hat-trick goal in a World Cup final. Surely that can’t be beat??
To cast your vote head over to FIFA.
