Liverpool are well versed when it comes to famous comebacks on European nights, just ask the likes of Olympiakos and AC Milan. They can now add Dortmund to that list, following a miraculous recovery, after going two goals down inside 10 minutes in the second leg of their Europa League tie on Thursday evening.

Dejan Lovren turned out to be the surprise hero after powering home a commanding header to make the score 4-3 sending Liverpool into the Europa League semi-finals as Anfield erupted in celebrations.

After pegging back Wolfsburg’s two goal lead from the first leg with a brace inside a couple of minutes, You just sensed it was only a matter of time before Cristiano Ronaldo finished the job off with a hat-trick.

And in the 80th minute, Ronaldo didn’t disappoint. From a good 25 yards out Ronaldo fired home an awkward bouncing free kick to seal Real Madrid’s progress into the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Andy Carroll’s baby delighted with strikers man of the match performance vs Arsenal

    Man of the match award…….✅

    Bottle of Champers………..✅

    Very happy baby…………..✅

    Phone call from Roy………..?

Andy Carroll put in a formidable man of the match performance against Arsenal on Saturday, scoring a hat-trick as the hammers came from 2-0 down to rescue a point at the Boleyn ground. The thrilling game eventually ended 3-3 with West Ham just about keeping their hopes of Champions League football alive.

And, judging by the smile on the little nipper’s face below, no one was more happier with Carroll’s hat-trick than his baby. That is unless Roy Hodgson has been equally impressed and is hastily trying to figure out if he has room for a burly striker in his England squad.

Following his hat-trick, where the big man seemed to be dominating Arsenal players just for the shear fun of it at times, Carroll now has more Premier League goals this season than Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge, while he is level with Wayne Rooney on 7 goals.

Do I think Carroll should be boarding the Eurostar? No. In Vardy, Kane and Rooney England are well stocked. Do I think Hodgson will be tempted to include him as a plan b? Absolutely. When England are starring down the barrel of defeat after scrapping through the group stage, Hodgson will thrown on the big man to wreak some havoc.

All is well once again at the Sanitago Bernabeu as Real Madrid put that surprise 2-0 defeat to Wolfsburg in the Champions League behind them by giving Eibar a good hiding.

Eibar, fearing a backlash from Madrid, soon had those fears confirmed as James Rodriguez set the ball rolling with an expertly taken close range free kick in the 5th minute.

Not to be out done, Cristiano Ronaldo bagged himself a goal and two assists as Real crusied to a 4-0 victory, and closed the gap on La Liga leaders Barcelona.

Marcelo pitches for the Fallon d’Floor award, we might have a winner

Forget the Ballon d’Or, Marcelo has set his eyes on a far more dignified award, the Fallon d’Floor.

2-0 down in the first leg of Real Madrid’s clash at Wolfsburg, Marcelo decided now was his time to throw his hat into the ring and his body on to the floor after taking a ‘devastating’ blow from Maximilian Arnold.

Extra points surely have to be awarded to Marcelo for first kicking out at Arnold, and then after feigning injury and hitting the turf, ensuring his victim also got a booking. Outstanding stuff from the Brazilian.

Oh Fernando, what have you done.

Fernando Torres rolled back the years during his action packed, but ultimately doomed cameo role during Atletico’s Champions League tie against Barcelona. From the off Torres was thundering around the pitch and bouncing off Barcelona players with a youthful exuberance reminiscent of his teenage years with Atletico.

Unfortunately for Torres, it was that same youthful recklessness that would see him score, and get sent off all in the space of 10 minutes.

    ’25: scores opening goal.

    ’29: yellow card.

’35: second yellow, and red card.

Watch Torres’ tidy finish in the video below.

Following the passing of Johan Cruyff, the Camp Nou paid tribute to the club legend with a “Gracies Johan” tifo before Barcelona took on Real Madrid in El Clasico.

Unfortunately for Barcelona, on the pitch it didn’t quite go to plan as they were to succumb to a defeat after Real Madrid came from a goal down to win 2-1 despite having Sergio Ramos sent off. The historic victory marks a debut El Clasico win as manager for Zinedine Zidane.

Giving away a free kick just outside the box to a team that has Dimitri Payet within it’s ranks, is fast becoming as dangerous as conceding penalties such is the lethal finishing the West Ham midfielder possesses in his right boot. Just ask Alan Pardew.

In the week we finally saw Payet suiting up for France, during which he wasted no time dispatching an incredible free kick against Russia. And today, Payet has followed up that free kick with another stunning effort, this time against Palace.
