Here’s Bayern Munich ‘left back’ David Alaba pivoting on the edge of the Arsenal box before lashing home the kind of strike even ol’ Lewy would be proud of.

I Hope you’re taking notes Nacho Monreal.

Alaba’s sublime effort was Bayern’s 3rd of the night as they went onto wallop a sorry looking Arsenal 5-1.

Klopp: The doors are always open for Gerrard………to train

With some doe-eyed nostalgic Liverpool fans (including this one, just a little) clambering for the band to get back together following the speculation that Steven Gerrard could be suiting up once again for the Reds, Jurgen Klopp was quick to prove he isn’t a big softy and hasn’t fallen for the romantic idea of a club legend returning to play once again.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Europa League game against Kazan, Klopp politely welcomed Gerrard back to the club insisting that the “doors are always open” but only if he promises to train and not turn up for the pre-match warm up on Saturday’s.

What a relief. The thought of Gerrard creaking around Anfield trying to carry out Klopp’s gegenpressing in the near future, would have been to much to watch.

Surely, this has to be a booking?

During Bayern Munich’s Champions clash with Arsenal, midfielder puppeteer Xabi Alonso is taken out by the corner flag in a nasty tackle just as he looks to sweep one into the box.

Hopefully the television replays will allow Uefa to throw the book at the offending corner flag, and issue a lengthy ban.

At half time, Alonso’s pride is said to be recovering and suffering no ill affects as Bayern sit 3-0 goals to the good.

In yet another example of ex-footballers son’s making you feel old as dirt, Patrick Kluivert’s 16-year-old(!) chip off the ol’ block, Justin has popped up with a cracking solo goal while playing for an Ajax youth team.

To top off the solo goal, Kluivert junior’s celebration presumably paid tribute to his idol. No, not his dad, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Fan footage of Wayne Rooney finally ending his goal drought for Man United

    Rooney-goal-CSKA
And just like that, Wayne Rooney was able to sleep a little easier at night. Following a goal drought that stretched back some 4,004,001 minutes, Wayne Rooney finally got the monkey off his back last night, scoring the winning goal during Man United’s 1-0 victory over CSKA.

The goal drew Rooney level on 237 goals with Denis Law in the all-time leading United goal scoring charts. Rooney remains a dozen behind leading scorer Bobby Charlton. A target which seems achievable at Rooney’s current goal scoring rate, only if he plays on until his forties.
