Today FIFA have announced the 10 nominees for the Puskas Award, a gong for the “most beautiful” goal of the year to be handed out during the Ballon d’Or ceremony in January.
Treasure the moment, because this is likely the only time of the year when FIFA will conduct a democratic vote from the people to suss out who should be rewarded for their labours. Last night, during Mexico’s semi-final against Nigeria in the Under 17’s World Cup, Diego Cortés scored a brilliant solo goal after leaving a host of defenders in his wake.
Unfortunately for Cortés, his effort would ultimately go unrewarded as Nigeria went on to win 4-2.
Nigeria head to the final where they will face Mali.

With the release of his upcoming film on Monday, Cristiano Ronaldo has been doing the rounds to promote his vanity project.
When asked about the possibility of joining Man City in the future during a interview with the BBC, Ronaldo insisted it was about passion and not money now that he is 30 and has amassed a fortune.

Jordon Ibe scored his first ever Liverpool goal with a superbly slotted finish to secure an important 1-0 win away to Rubin Kazan in The Europa League.
As you’d expect, once the final whistle had gone, Jurgen Klopp keen to congratulate his match winner, gave Ibe a good squeeze.
