Andreas Pereira bagged a brace yesterday as Manchester United U21’s beat their Spurs counter parts 3-1.

Pereira’s first was a brilliant effort scoring directly from a whipped in corner. Louis van Gaal was said to be nonplussed with Pereira’s effort sighting exciting finishes like that have no place in the senior team.*

*I might or might not have completely made that statement up.

Watch Pereira’s Olimpico (yes, they have a name apparently) in the video below.

If you were one of the many people complaining that Real Madrid hadn’t shown enough patience and pulled the trigger to quickly after sacking Rafa Benitez yesterday, you’d be wrong.

As revealed by grinning Spanish insider Guillem Balagué in the video below, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez managed to hold back the sacking just long enough to wrap up a kids party that was being held in the same event area.

Oh Hatem, all you had to do was finish it off!!

Hatem Ben Arfa glimpsed greatness, if only for a couple of seconds, after almost pulling off what would have been one of the finest solo goals.

A trim Ben Arfa playing for Nice during their cup tie with Rennes, danced round several defenders before squaring up the keeper only to be cruelly denied as he pulled the trigger by a recovering defender.

From the vault: 11 years ago today Roy Carroll escapes clanger vs Spurs

    RoyCarroll_clanger-Spurs
Over a decade has now past since Man United keeper Roy Carroll got away with what was a clear goal after inexplicably dropping a long range effort from Tottenham’s Pedro Mendes over the line.

To look back at the Carroll clanger that happened on the 4th of January 2001, it’s now astonishing to think that once upon a time goal line technology was treated with element of suspicion as the football authorities resisted technology rather than encouraging it. It would take until the 2013-14 season before goal line technology was eventually introduced to the Premier League.

    Watch Carroll’s clanger below.

With his work done, Traore presumably didn’t see the need to come out for the second half, and instead got himself sent off during the half time break after being involved in a spitting incident with Yann Marioti who was also given his marching orders.

Monaco just about managed to see off the cup tie in Traore’s absence, going on to win 10-2.

Watch all four of Traore’s goals in an eventful first half below.

Barnet doing the best impression of hilarious Zaire 1974 free kick

    Barnet-free-kick-Zaire-Mwepu-Ilunga
It was one of the most baffling moments in football. Back at the 1974 world Cup, Zaire defender Mwepu Ilunga decided he didn’t fancy Brazil taking a free kick just outside the box so took matters in to his own hands after launching the ball up field much to the disbelief and confusion of both sets of players.

The infamous moment was somewhat recreated by Barnet yesterday during their clash with Northampton. Defending a free kick, Barnet’s Gavin Hoyte channelled his inner Ilunga and prematurely booted the ball away.

Hoyte’s eagerness would however be in vain, as his side slumped to a 3-0 defeat.

Watch both Hoyte’s effort and Ilunga’s original below.
