From the vault: 18-year-old Julian Joachim with an outrageous outside of the boot finish

With the ‘magic of the cup’ upon this weekend, reminiscing over a Julian Joachim wonder goal seemed like a good way of getting in the mood for FA Cup football.

The goal in question came in a third round replay against Barnsley at Filbert street in 1993. Joachim, who had just broken on to the scene for Leicester, ran from his own half before nonchalantly chipping the keeper with an audacious outside of the boot finish.

“18-years-old and the World at his feet” proclaimed the commentator after Joachim’s exquisite goal. Proving that even 20 odd years ago, commentators were no less hyperbolic when it came to describing the latest English youngster to make his mark.

    Watch Joachim’s beauty below.

Chest-ening experience for Craig Foster during Liverpool legends match

Hmmm not sure which is worse, my awkward sounding pun used in the headline, or the video that inspired it above.

The clip is taken from an exhibition match featuring an Australian XI vs Liverpool legends. Before the action kicks off, Australian legend Craig Foster gives his 8-year-old mascot a pat on the chest which predictably caused a large shit storm on twitter as people rushed to pass judgement.

Afterwards Foster took to twitter to address the incident:

Presumably his teenage kids didn’t see it as all that much of a “shame” having missed out on having their chests patted down by their dad on public television.

Espanyol keeper figures out controversial way of stopping Lionel Messi

    Lopez-stamp-messi
I call this the “Stamp on a player when no one is looking, but make it look like you’re just casually getting up” technique. Admittedly the name of the technique needs work, it needs to be more snappy. Huh, Snappy! That will do, The Snappy!

Espanyol’s keeper Pau Lopez tried to administer the Snappy during his sides Copa del Rey clash with Barcelona. Unfortunately for Lopez, who must be an amateur when it comes to using the Snappy, failed miserably and here is how. 1. He gives away his intentions with a knowing look at the limb he is about to stamp on, thus completely undermining the idea of making it look like a casual, honest mistake. 2. By targeting one of the World’s best player, Lopez guaranteed that many, many people would indeed be looking. 3. If you insist on apply the Snappy on the oppoistions best player, probably a good idea to do it before he scores a stunning free kick against you.
