“You can’t win anything with kids” 20 years ago today Alan Hansen goes into punditry folklore
20 years – yes, 20 years ago today(!) – Alan Hansen immortalised himself in the world of punditry when he criticised Manchester United’s opening day defeat to Aston Villa on Match of the Day.
Hansen had insisted that Manchester United wouldn’t win anything if they were to rely on the new crop of youngsters coming through at the club.
Of course, Hansen’s comments would come back to haunt him as by the end of the season United’s ‘kids’ went on to win the double, capturing the FA Cup and Premier League titles.
