A lonely looking Laurent Blanc takes on cross bar Challenge

PSG coach Laurent Blanc cut a bit of a lonely figure during a recent training session. A video has emerged showing Blanc taking on the cross bar challenge all on his tod.

The PSG coach proved he still has some accuracy in his boots, successfully hitting the bar twice but just missing out on a hat-trick of strikes.

The Weekend’s tasty bits – Costa bait, Totti milestone & I eat Carl Jenkinson’s hat

Arsenal’s Gabriel takes the Costa bait

With Chelsea desperate for a win, and a pretty uneventful first half about to come to a close, Arsenal for the first time in what must be at least 100 years looked like they might be able to get something from their visit to Stamford Bridge on Saturday. That was until the angriest man in football, Diego Costa, slapped Laurent Kosceilny about the face before indulging in some expert shithousery that proved too irresitable for Gabriel to turn down. Gabriel fell for the bait, hook, line and sinker – stupidly cocking a leg at Costa right in front of referee Mike Dean.

Footage dug up from 2013 shows Gabriel and Costa had previous when it comes to these kinds of antics, which might go some way to explaning the weekends events.

Predictably, with Arsenal down to 10 men for the second half, then 9 with Cazorla picking up a second yellow, Chelsea breezed to that much needed win.

Arsenal fans have reportedly consoled themselves by boycotting Costa coffee. Yes, you read that right.

    I eat Carl Jenkinson’s hat

Wave after wave came the City attacks, there was no way West Ham could possibly hold on to their slender 2-1 lead with still a half hour to play at the Eithad. Those were the thoughts going through my head as I boldly claimed I would eat Carl Jenkinson’s hat if West Ham managed the feat.

Needless to say, that rim was tiring work.

    Zlatan dares to miss

Zlatan Ibrahimovic can’t seem to buy a goal currently. His latest misfiring came against Reims, when the PSG striker skewed a header wide with the goal seemingly at his mercy.

Have Leeds United won the league already??

No, no they have not. But you could be forgiven for thinking they had after seeing footage of their fans celebrating a win wildly over MK Dons. The impromptu celebrations climaxed with a fan climbing a beam on the inside of the MK Dons stadium.

    Totti hits 300

It may not have been his most elegant of strikes, but Roma legend Francesco Totti hit his 300th goal for the club during a 2-2 draw with Sassuolo. To celebrate Roma produced a photomosaic of all 300 Totti goals.

Mohamed Salah’s peach of a volley in the same game is also well worth checking out.

    Saint Anthony Martial

    Martial-van-Dijk-cramp
Manchester United new boy Anthony Martial continued his impressive start to life at Old Trafford with a brilliantly taken brace during his sides 3-2 win over Southampton.

As well as bagging the goals, Martial proved his good egg credentials after helping out Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk who was suffering from what appeared to be a spot of cramp. Though, perhaps having Martial peer over him as he struggled in pain was the last thing van Dijk wanted to see after being terrorised by the forward throughout the game.

Oh and in my final words, a quick mention of Steve McClaren, who has just overseen Newcastle’s 4th defeat in 6 Premier League games and is yet to win. Time to phone a friend Steve?

Mohamed Salah open his account for Roma with a peach of a volley

Chelsea loanee Mohamed Salah pulled Roma level during the Serie A clash with Sassuolo on Sunday with a stunning strike.

Unmarked on the edge of the box, Salah walloped a first time volley into the bottom corner. The fantastic strike earned Roma a point with the full time score Roma 2-2 Sassuolo.

Tip of the hat to Roma’s Francesco Totti who reached a milestone with his 300th goal for the club which you can watch here.

Leeds United fans celebrate MK Dons win wildly as fan climbs stadium beam

Judging by this fan footage you’d be forgiven for thinking that Leeds had just won the league. However the cause for the all excitement was simply because they were happy to pick up a 2-1 away win over MK Dons in the Championship thanks to a penalty from Chris Wood and a cracking strike from Charlie Taylor.

After the victory, Leeds United filled an inner corridor of the stadium to give a rousing chant of “All Leeds aren’t we.” The celebrations reached a climax when a fan finally cocked his leg over a beam after much will he won’t be able to manage it.

    All very endearing.

Arturo Vidal scores his first Bayern Munich goal with a cracking strike

Arturo Vidal has bagged his first goal for Bayern Munich and it was a right belter. Playing against SV Darmstadt, Vidal opened the scoring after taking a neat touch on the edge of the box before unleashing an unstoppable drive.

“He acts like a petulant baby!” Rio Ferdinand spits the dummy over Costa

After what had been a relatively quite and uneventful first half between Chelsea and Arsenal, suddenly descended into chaos with Diego Costa the principle instigated.

Having taken a couple of swipes at Laurent Koscielny and gotten away with it, Costa then exchanged verbals with Gabriel before the latter got sent off for what looked like a pretty innocuous coming together.

Speaking at half time, Rio Ferdinand predicatably criticised Diego Costa the pantomime villain calling his behaviour one of a petulant baby.

Maybe so, but Gabriel fell for Costa’s antics hook, line and sinker.

In the second half Chelsea went onto a comfortable 2-0 win after goals from Zouma and Hazard. To make matters worse for Arsenal, Cazorla picked up his second yellow meaning his side were down to 9 men for the last 10 minutes.

Back in October 1996 Southampton pulled off an eye cathcing 6-3 win against would be champions Manchester United at the Dell.

Matt Le Tissier produced the pick of the bunch, turning a couple of United defenders before lobbing a typically nonchalant effort over the head of a hapless Peter Schmeichel from the edge of the box. Of the goal, Le Tissier would later casually reflect: “It might scrape into my top 10”

You could argue that the 6-3 win wasn’t too much of a surprise as Southampton had form on United going into the tie. Back in April that same year, Saints managed a 3-1 win over United after the infamous grey kit fiasco.

The two sides meet again this Sunday at St. Mary’s.

  • Brendan Rodgers comes up with very Brendan Rodgers reason for Ings miss

Brendan Rodgers comes up with very Brendan Rodgers reason for Ings miss

Ohhhh Brendan, you marvellous talker of nonsense.

Liverpool earned a respecful 1-1 draw in their opening Europa League match with Bordeaux on Thursday evening in France. Adam Lallana had given Liverpool the lead with a quality finish, before Jussie equalised for Bordeaux.

Danny Ings, making a rare appearance as a striker could have given Liverpool their second goal only to be thwarted at close range by the keeper.

Speaking after the game, Brendan Rodgers came up with a new ‘Brendanism’ to add to the collection, with his reason for Ings’ miss: “His second touch was too good” scoffed the Northern Irishmen.

That remark goes right up there alongside “if anything he’s hit that too well” in hallowed football cliches.

    Top stuff Brendan.
