EPLpod: Riyad Mahrez trolls Arsenal to get better contract at Leicester

Mike and Paul from EPLpod discuss whether Riyad Mahrez has just followed Jamie Vardy’s tactic in using interest from Arsenal to land himself a lucrative deal with Leicester City. West Ham are asking Ayew Ok to Andre Ayew – which he most certainly is not after being ruled out with a muscle injury. And, Manchester City give Steaua Bucharest a right good rogering.

EPLpod: Liverpool victorious after 7 goal thriller at the Emirates

Mike and I literally have to talk Paul off his ledge and into the EPLpod studio after a soul crushing defeat for the Gunners courtesy of a fine brace from Liverpool’s Coutinho at the Emirates on the opening weekend of Premier League football.

Elsewhere, Mourinho’s Manchester United are up and running thanks to an unlikely source in Juan Mata and a more likely source in Zlatan as they brush aside Bournemouth on the South coast. Pep’s Manchester City give us a glimpse of what we can expect under his tutelage: plenty of intricate passing and so many different formations viewers are left in a daze let alone the opposition players.

Vardy punches himself in the chops during Leicester’s defeat to Hull

    Vardy-Leicester-Hull-punch-himself
No, Jamie Vardy is definitely not having a party anymore. Instead he is punching himself in the face!

Leicester kept up their tradition of proving pundits – this one included – really have no idea what is going on by becoming the first defending Premier League Champion to lose their opening game.

Hull have had a miserable pre-season, and don’t even have a permanent manager currently. However, despite all the chaos surrounding the club, they managed stun Champions Leicester after Robert Snodgrass rifled home the winner to grab a deserved 2-1 win.

The defeat was all too much to take for Vardy, who decided to take out his frustration the only way he knows how: By giving himself a good upper cut to his own pointy chin.

Manchester United have finally ended this seasons summer transfer saga after spending a world record £92m on Paul Pogba. But is Pogba the right man for United, and just where will he fit into the starting XI??

EPLpod: Zlatan powers United to Community Shield win

With Mike on holiday, no doubt sat on a deck next to a pristine lake contemplating his next New York Times best seller, Paul and I are left to our own devices on the front line. And what a weekend for Mike to miss, as we discuss United getting their hands on the first piece of silverware of the season and Paul Pogba looks to be finally signing for the Old Trafford club.

As well as the Community Shield we take in Liverpool’s thrashing of Barcelona, followed by Mainz’ thrashing of Liverpool, and some more meaningful friendlies as we edge closer to the beginning of Premier League season.

EPLpod: Man City aren’t mucking around in this transfer window

Jesus, Manchester City are once again flexing their financial muscle after snapping up another pacey winger type which must have Raheem Sterling fluffing up his cushion on the City bench. With City’s £28m capture of the Brazilian Gabriel Jesus – expect plenty of biblical puns – they take their spending almost to the £100m mark under their new spendy pants coach Pep Guardiola. The type of spending that has Paul from EPLpod both shaking in his boots and cursing at Arsene Wenger who appears to be muttering something about net spend under his breath.

In the half of Manchester and the other half of EPLpod, Mike took in Manchester United’s game with Everton for Wayne Rooney’s testimonial. The match was streamed live, and, most importantly free on facebook. A case of you get what you pay for perhaps, as the match finished in a 0-0 bore draw.

Listen to the latest episode of EPLpod below and find out which one of you lucky chaps will be joining Mike and Paul on their trip to Adelaide.

EPLpod: Arsene Wenger is terrified of the transfer market

With the start of the new Premier League season just around the corner, its that time of year for Arsene Wenger to once again admit how scared he is about the size of transfer fees his minted competitors are willing to throw around. A comment that has Paul from EPLpod tearing his recently buzzed hair out, while Mike is happy to purr over the squad depth Manchester United now possess.

Listen to the latest episode from EPLpod as they continue to crank up the anticipation of the new season below.

3 Minutes into his debut and Zlatan Ibrahimovic is already scoring outrageous goals

Well, this is just about typical of Zlatan Ibrahimovic the big show off!

Never one to be accused of being understated, the Swede opened his Manchester United account by casually volleying home a scissor kick during a friendly with Galatasaray. A goal that should work wonders on his fragile confidence!

Quite an impact by the self proclaimed “God of Manchester” after just 3 minutes of football for the Old Trafford side. The type of goal that will only elicit him more worshippers.

Watch Zlatan’s superb acrobatic debut goal below.
