Lazy unpatriotic Sterling confesses to being tired – England fans are angry

We’ve all been there at some point. You know the feeling, when you’re a little bit tired and you’d rather just sit this one out. Monday mornings for example. You can usually get away with pulling a sicky or fobbing off that critical deadline for another 24 hours. Your free from the judgement of a Nation.

Not so for Raheem Stirling. Before England’s game against Estonia on the weekend, the teenage Liverpool winger confessed -presumably in confidence- to Roy Hodgson that he was tired.

After England’s 1-0 win in Tallinn, Roy Hodgson spilled the beans over Sterling’s absence from the starting XI saying to BBC Radio 5 Live ā€œRaheem said, ā€˜Iā€™m feeling tired, Iā€™d rather sit this one out.ā€™

Which, as you can imagine, was all it took to whip twitter into a frenzy as the critics started to pile on Sterling, questioning his desire, or is some cases his patriotism. Eventually, Sterling responded to the critics saying “Excuse me for being human.”

Presumably, next time, in the name of patriotism, for the sake of the three lions on one’s chest and the troops abroad, it’s best to just lie and put in a performance you know to be inferior to the standard normally expected. Yeah, thats the moral in the story right there.
